Somehow it doesn't sound too appealing to rub my skin with scrub granules after it has been exposed to harsh, dry, freezing winds in winter. That's when mild acid-based exfoliating masks, or chemical exfoliating, come into play.
Chemical here doesn't mean we will be using all sorts of synthetic chemicals. Acetic acid in vinegar is a chemical, too. So is honey. Chemical only means we will be using a melting power of plant-derived acid to dissolve dead skin cells, not physical action of granules like in a regular scrub.
Here's a simple recipe of an exfoliating and yet exceptionally nourishing mask that costs pennies to make, even if you use all-organic ingredients.
Ingredients
1/2 avocado (use the remaining half for a salad)
1 teaspoon honey
1/2 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
Method
Peel the avocado, cut it in half and set the skin aside.
Mash up half the avocado with honey and apple cider vinegar.
Use immediately before the mix starts to darken.
Apply to freshly cleansed skin and leave for 15 minutes.
Meanwhile, rub the insides of avocado skin all over your hands, knees, and heels. Avocado makes an excellent exfoliating moisturizer. Do it before you take a shower or a bath.
Please note: this mask cannot be stored, so apply it generously and your skin will thank you.
