Thankfully, the baby food industry is moving in the right direction, but we still love DIY Baby Food and think these tips and tricks are ESSENTIAL.

Over the past few years, most manufacturers have taken out the added preservatives in baby food, which makes your life a lot easier as a consumer. Say what?! Yup, we found an industry that has been progressing to make healthier food. While baby food in the grocery stores has been getting healthier (many awesome brands rate a B+ with us), we are still avid fans of those parents that go for DIY and make baby food at home.  This way, you know EXACTLY what you are feeding your baby. Oh, and you'll save some money while you are at it.  Preparing baby food at home saves an estimated $500 a year.

There are so many different foods to feed your little ones as mush and some of our favorites include bananas, peas, butternut squash, and chicken soup.

Here are 3 essential tips on do-it-yourself baby food:

  1. After cooking and pureeing the food, freeze it in silicone trays (its worth the investment!) that way its easy to pop out and melt for your little one to enjoy.
  2.  Try mixing different flavors. Let two different food cubes melt together and see if your toddler enjoys it!
  3. Don't know which foods to start with? Stroll through the baby food aisle at the grocery story and look at the different fun flavors being sold. Manufacturers have done the testing and are always coming up with unique flavors such as "spinach, peas & pear" and "broccoli apple."
